Yup.. very good indeed. Surprising amount of British actors in it as well. I was expecting a gung-ho type hollywood cheesefest, but I recon they did a good job.

I thought it was a bit monotonous, mowing down all the faceless 'skinnies'

it was like a video game

One of the best war films ever IMO, and a really good film to enjoy with your surround up to volume 11

Enjoyable, but the 'skinnies' are de-humanised to the point that it is like an arcade video game, plus it's difficult to track who's who due to head gear and the fast paced action. 7/10 for me smile

Which gives it a pretty realistic feel IMO. Not watched it in ages though.

awesome, awesome film. The bit where (iirc) Shughart and Gordon go in to try to secure one of the crash sites is just brilliant. And, by all accounts, a fairly realistic version of the true events.

Wasn't one of the original pilots later convicted as a kiddy fiddler and so for the film his character has a different name?

Ah, a quick Googley shows that John Stebbins became John Grimes as Stebbins was convicted of sexually assaulting his daughter.

Good film but has the worst accent ever committed to celluloid.

Love this film! Brilliant.

I love it when the Helicopter goes over and lights up the roof tops through IR vision!

And this bit;

Grimes: Why aren't you shooting?
Waddell: We're not being shot at yet.
Grimes: How can you tell?
Waddell: A hiss means it's close. A snap means...
[a bullet whizzes close by]
Waddell: Now they're shooting at us!
[they begin returning fire]

Epic film, the snipers are awesome and the poor bloke in the Humvee that gets an RPG-7 to his stomach is brutal. The music is also very very good.

Is this the one with the scene when they ask what they are shooting at and they say building A.... they get told its building B they should be shooting at and not A, just as someone rings in to tell them to stop shooting at their own people in building A.

ish. they leave out the fact that it was an pakistani armoured convoy from the UN who got them out, but if you read the book i think theyld be glad they were left out of it. FUBAR on all fronts.

rightio! long time since i've seen it and thought the armoured was US.

iirc, that armoured division were based something ridiculous like a mile outside the city in a heavily fortified compound yet sat there doing nothing due to politics up the command chain. on the way out they'd stop at every junction!

think the book is £3 or something daft from HMV. well worth a read. has a small chapter at the end of the surviving pilot's time held hostage.
