Being new to PH, I havnt seen one (maybe a good reason why, I´m sure you´ll inform me!) so I thought i´d start one!

Moved to Spain a couple of years ago, and whilst being a Premiership junkie, ive taken la liga to heart. Had a season ticket at Zaragoza a couple of years ago...and they got relegated after promising me Champions League football. Bxstards.

Now got a season ticket at Xerez, and whilst I wasnt fooled with any promises, undoubtedly I´ll see them relegated too. At least there are goals, lots of goals!

Anyone else follow la liga? Or is it just me?

Live in Barcelona, but not fussed about watching the games at the rates BCN charge..... Might pop to Espagnol in their new ground, but sadly cannot share your enthusiasm

Sounds like you're a good omen for the team you're following, two teams in two years and both probably going to be relagated!

I follow it. Used to live 5mins walk from Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan in Sevilla (back when they were rubbish)....

Useful links:

El Mundo Futbol page

League table

The Guardian Football podcast is worth catching too. Usually has a good section on La Liga.

Madrid derby this weekend, and Xerez are due to get beaten at Valladolid.

Yeah, barca isnt cheap, but I have a mate who lives there that got tickets for the crappy games against Santander and Valladolid for about 30/40 euros, if you dont mind being about 100metres up in the air wink Considering thats what I used to pay to go see Cheltenham Town it aint bad!

Seems I am a bad omen, in that case I reckon i´ll go for Real Madrid next year wink

The team and the ground are almost unrecognisable from when I was there ('96). That year, they got relegated I think, and Atlético Madrid won the double! Back then the car park for the stadium was where the hookers took their tricks late at night. Now it's a swish cinema + mall complex. How things change...

It was 1,000 ptas to go and watch them capitulate again and again, but worth it for the colourful lanugage lessons!

From what I remember I dont think the swish cinema and hall had put off the hookers!

Surprised you understood anything they said, the accent is probably akin to deep scouse or brum in UK!

Make that six points wink Poor spurs fans, think they´re onto something and get thrashed by Manu Chelsea and Arsenal. Saying that, i´m a fan of bargain basement harry.

probably going to get a few requests now..... Wouldnt mind going to watch a team that won once in a while. Might go and jinx sevilla next year if/when xerez get relegated.

Fixtures this weekend:

S/18:00 Tenerife - Málaga
S/18:00 Getafe - Deportivo
S/20:00 Barcelona - Mallorca
S/22:00 Atlético - R.Madrid
D/17:00 Valladolid - Xerez
D/17:00 Sporting - Espanyol
D/17:00 Racing - Athletic
D/17:00 Almería - Osasuna

I'm going to guess a Madrid score draw and a win for Sevilla and Barca.

Did you ever try out the 'quiniela' in Spain? I rarely get more than 3/4 predictions right...normally only madrid/barca etc.

I´ll go for:

Tenerife
Draw
Barca
Atletico (Controversial)
Valladolid
Sporting
Draw
Osasuna
Valencia
Villarreal

A full guess. I never did the Quiniela, because I fully expect to get most of these wrong.

Tenerife
Getafe - Depor = draw
Barca
Madrid derby = draw
Valladolid - Xerez = draw
Sporting
Athletic
Osasuna
Valencia
Sevilla

Six right! Good effort. Maybe you should reconsider you position on doing the quiniela! wink

Results:

Tenerife 2 - 2 Málaga
Getafe 0 - 2 Deportivo
Barcelona 4 - 2 Mallorca
Atlético 2 - 3 R.Madrid
Valladolid 0 - 0 Xerez
Sporting 1 - 0 Espanyol
Racing 0 - 2 Athletic
Almería 2 - 0 Osasuna
Valencia 3 - 1 R. Zaragoza
Sevilla 3 - 2 Villarreal

Atlético made a valiant effort to draw the derby, scoring 2 to come back from 3-0 down after Real had a man sent off.... I reckon those were beginner's luck guesses though.

Classification Pts Played

1 Barcelona 26 10
2 R.Madrid 25 10
3 Sevilla 22 10
4 Valencia 21 10
5 Deportivo 19 10
6 Mallorca 17 10

Beginners luck or not, i´m sticking your predictions on the quiniela next league weekend! wink

Felt sorry for Atletico, could have drawn....Casillas pulled off a stunning save towards the end. But they were god awful in the first half...or Real Madrid played well....difficult to say.

I did a football tour to Barcelona where we trained at Espanyol's training ground and with their coaches, so although I'm a Madridista I have an interest in Espanyol. Any news of Tamudo? I heard he might be forced out a week or two ago.

Good to see Pennant settling down at Zaragoza, although I doubt his Spanish it up to much!

That must have been awesome! Did you get to meet any of the players or Pochettino? Or get to see the new stadium...hear it's impressive.

Seems like the directors and Tamudo have kissed and made up... Article on it here:

http://livinlaliga.blogspot.com/2009/11/truce-betw...

He played against Getafe in the cup last week but didnt do too much.
