hi i have recently purchased a tvr350i that has a starting fault there is a spark but no fuel, the fuel pump isent coming on, if u run a feed from the fuel pump to the battery the fuel pump comes on so i assume the fuel pump is ok but there is no clicking from the injectors, if u spray easy start down the plenum it fires for a second, iv had the ecu tested and the they say is all working fine, so i suppose it could be fuel pump relay but i dont know which one this is.
can someone tell which is the fuel pump relay, main relay, and steering module? any help with this would be much appreciated. thanx

I can't find an online copy of the relay positions but they are in your handbook.

This is useful too:

Searching on here for 'wedge relay' will give you some related threads that may be of interest.

With the ignition on, reach in to the AFM from the plenum side. You should feel a pivoted flap. When you open the flap the fuel pump should burst in to life. If it doesn't it's probably fuse, relay or a dodgy wire somewhere along the way. Had similar with my old Wedge & one of the wires that feeds the pump just in front of the back wheel had been damaged. Good luck. thumbup

the wires dont look in the best condition could check that too, iv done that flap test already but no sound from the pump, it has had a clifford alarm fitted at some time in its life i dont know if this would affect it in anyway.

You have probably got a wiring/connector fault in the steering module and pump relay circuit, including the possibility of a faulty relay or dirty contacts.

On this archive index,

http://www.vintagemodelairplane.com/pages/Rover_Te...

navigate to the Steering Module and the Fuel Supply system essays where you will find HTML or PDF's on everything you need to know about those circuits and how they work. Although written for the Rover SD1 Efi your system is very similar.

On the same index you will also find comprehensive detail of every Efi Component and how to test/service them. A unique and unparallelled technical dissertation of proven accuracy and quality, tailored specifically for the home enthusiast.

If you have a problem piecing all these articles together you might choose to obtain the Efi Ops Manual, for the complete story.

Sure, one of the internal diodes could fail. One or two anecdotal cases have surfaced over many years, but never confirmed as proven in the cases I recall.

I would say very rare for steering module failure. Relays more likely because they're handling higher currents and are more vulnerable to poking with meter probes etc, but overall, much more likely to be a connection problem thereabouts.

Wriggling local Efi loom wiring can often expose problem areas and everything (including connections) can be tested by following the testing process, with the practical exception of the ECU, usually best checked by substitution.

Pull the fuel pump relay out. On the bottom the terminals should be numbered. Identify the terminals numbered '30' and '87'. Find a bit of stiff wire and poke it into the corresponding terminals in the relay socket. With the ignition on the fuel pump should now run permanently.

my steering module burnt out but only because i never knew that it was a diode pack and was plugging it into other circuits when i had a lighting problem.
The steering module is the red one if you dont already know that, and if you take the casing off you should be able to see if the diodes are burnt out. they will stink too! but are easily replaced

Anotha 350i keep em coming. cant wait to get mine running.

right the red relay i have the back of it and it has 4 prongs and a little circuit board and it does smell burnt out, i have also linked a small wire to 30 to 87 on one of the relays and the fuel pump comes on constant, it is a black relay so am i right in thinking this is the fuel pump relay, but aint the 3 relays ment to be all next to each other??

where can i get a steering module and fuel pump relay like today if possible??

Ooops! I guess that falls outside my experience of "Failure in Service", a bit like the one I accidentally crushed underfoot. Amazingly when straightened out it still worked. If you come across one with damaged diodes, any cheap as chips, utility diode (Maplins) will do in this low voltage, low current application.

Raj, I have no idea where you will find the Steering Module inside a TVR, but it will look like this Big Red one adjacent to the Efi Main and Pump relays!

If its burned out, thats gonna be the problem, but if not, your best route to a solution is via testing as opposed the the expensive process of scattergun component replacement.
