Hi, I have a 2000 Discovery TD5 with a running problem.
It seems to "missfire" at about 2700 revs, if I try and drive through this problem (3500 rpm) it becomes very sluggish and lacking power, also gets a bit smokey out the back if I do this.
The juddery missfire type problem seems to be at its worst when cold, if I go a longer distance this missfire problem seems to get better but the sluggish/lacking in power feel gets worse.
Its done a little over 100k, and is due a service soon, but any help is good, don't mind getting the spanners out if there is aa easy fix.

Cheers Simon.

check for oil in the injector harness when it goes in for a service.

Clean the MAP sensor.

And clean out the EGR..or remove!!

Excuse the rushed post............late for work!!!!

As Bish says, it sounds like oil in the injector harness

don't think its much as it drives fine (apart from the above) and sounds fine.

Most probably Oil in the Injector Harness.

Remove Battery -ve, and the retaining screws holding the ECU just behind the battery.
Carefully unplug the multi-plug on the ECU, if you can see oil residue there - then that's the problem!
You can replace the Injector Harness yourself, they don't cost much, and then it's just a case of cleaning the oil off the ECU a couple of times until the majority has been cleared from the loom. You can replace that, but it's costly.

Likely suspects are inoperative MAF, the solenoid that controls the the turbo wastegate, You will find this on the passenger side of the engine. CHeck that the hose is connected

Changed the injector harness at the weekend, and cleaned the map sensor, worked better for a bit then started missfiring again, so cleaned ecu plug again, and map again, still not right but getting better.
was thinking of this EGR bypass? would this make it better?

Or any other ideas? I will look at boost hoses next.

Thanks for all that. I'll get in there and check all the hoses properly, had a quick look round for any thing obvious, but will have a better look. beer

Intercooler hoses, waste gate control, fuel pump, air flow.
