Rybrook Group were offering free MOT's recently if you booked before 31st October. So I thought why not - and rang to book my car in. They booked me in and then said the offer was only valid if I either remained on site for the duration of the MOT *or* took a loan car. The loan car was free so I went for that offer.

So I duly turned up on Monday morning, collected the keys to a box fresh 120d M Sport with 6 miles on the clock, carried on up the M6, came back that evening after a day in the loan car and was told my car had passed the MOT with no advisories.

I left having paid them nothing more than £10 to insure the loan car for the day.

What was the catch? Where is the logic in offering somebody a free MOT and the use of a brand new car for the day? I was expecting them to find all sorts wrong with my car..

Because when they get a car with even a sniff of lead work they will fail it and present the customer with a list the length of his arm of stuff it needs doing, knowing that some of the customers won't even question it.
