I have been given a helmet mount for my lights. I usualy mount on the bars, is it any better on the lid?

I have 2 P7's - one light on the bars, one on the lid. With one on the lid the light points where your head looks, making it great as you can look into the turns, not straight ahead as per the bars only.

Much better on the head.

However, I tend to knock things off my helmet, so will always put an expensive light on the bars where it's safer and get something a bit more cheap 'n' cheerful for up top.

IMO you really want 2 lights - a bar mount, and a helmet mount too!

Flood/Wide beam on the bars pointed closer to you, and a spot on the helmet to reach into the distance.

Another thing to remember is that if you get a puncture or something, a headtorch is much more useful than a light pointing down the trail!
