Driving to Prague this weekend with a couple of other PHers.

Anything we should defiantly see / do and what should we avoid?

Any comments welcome as we are Praha virgins so we only know what the guide book tells us

EDIT - search on ph isnt being usefull today before any cries of repost appear

Go to the big clock about 9sh, theres usually a bar crawl that kicks off there..
You can get lashed on the cheap!
Only use A1 taxis or watever they're called otherwise you'll end up paying about 3 x the amount.
Go to one of the sex clubs if u like.

Make sure you wander into the old town and see the clock. The cathedral's worth seeing and a climb to the top is worth it, but knackering.

The hookers & lap dancers are also good, but if that floats your boat, avoid 'Darlings' - it's not as good as everyone tells you

Taxis, if you have to use them, avoid private ones, company I used was 'AAA', cheapest around.

You'll find that there seems to be lots of dodgy looking black guys trying to lure you into strip clubs etc

Charles bridge is worth a look too.

There is an excellent boot shop just down the road from the Intercontinental Hotel.

Bought 2 pairs for the wife, who, whilst won't wear them outside the house, still slips them on from time to time. cloud9

I drove to Prague a couple of summers ago and I would not have found my hotel, nor ever managed to leave the city without the God of TomTom. Make sure you have SatNav.

Go shoot some guns! The Czech Republic is the only place in Europe you can do it without a license!

good beer though and the waiters are fond of giving you free shots.

its the only bar i've been in abroad where the presence of other brits was welcome. fantastic atmosphere when the band get going - traditional accordions etc. but they'll play anything to get people singing and dancing.

there's an amazing cake shop on the street with all the high end shops but can't remember what its called now

That cake shop will most likely be in the Jewish quarter smile

The restaurant I linked to earlier was a big fan of giving out free shots too, of Becherovka and Martini, very nice people smile

Couldn't get seated at Fleku when I went!

Don't know if it's open again but the Technical Museum isis class. Full of cool Tatras, Bugattis, old racing Mercs , aircraft, locomotives. The Czechs were really ahead of their time with technology back in the day.

Been to Prague twice, most recently on a stag do. We hired a really lush apartment literally on Wenceslas (sp) square, was awesome, ths was on summer and we spent a lot of time onn the rooff terrace with cold beers.

Highlights;

Old town and Charles bridge, really beautiful and worth a look, esp. at night.

A real cafe culture cities, very easy to spend hours at a cafe having a succession of lush beers whilst watching the totty.

I have been to quite a few Eastern european countries and the girls are Prague really are up there, only Krakow, as a city, beats Prague. Its as though every girl is head turningly attractive.

Guns. We went for a mornings shooting out of town, cost us about 100 quid a head but sooo worth it...fired lots of different guns you just wouldn't get a chance to outside the USA. I am into shooting anyway so it was a real highlight...a morning spent shooting an AK47, M16, .44 magnum, Glock pistol etc etc etc is a very cool memory.

Stripclubs, lots of them, at night i found the amount of "touts" on the streets (often black guys) really annoying, they just wont take a hint, being britisha and polite out "no thanks" just didn't work. You have to ignore them and if that doesn't work just spell it out... We did go to a few clubs, most were reallt crap tbh, one stood out above the rest but for the life of me i can't recall its name. Just be careful, if it looks dodgy in the slightest just walk away (glad we did this on a few occasions)

Basicaly enjoy! Pragues a lovely city which is on the cusp of being ruined, i found when i went in winter (itn was December) the atmosphere was far more pleasent than in the summer.

I went in Dec 06, the Christmas market was really good and the atmosphere was just amazing, it was a real pleasure being there...God knows how many gallons of hot choclate drank whilst sat people watching in the old town....lush. Defo a place to go with somebody special in the winter, esp. Xmas time.
