TVR to Ferrari
Discussion
Just wondering how many Cerb owners out there would ideally love to have a Ferrari. For me it would have to be the 3 series range. The 348, 355 and 360 spyders have been the cars I've dreamt about since I can remember.
I've always imporved the cars I've had, cost and perfromance wise I suppose. Sometime in the next 5 year period the Ferrari will be arriving HOWEVER i wonder if it's going to be everything I remember it being when I test drove the 355 about 3 years back (before I had the TVR).
I somehow still have the image in my mind it is better than all other sports cars, looks, perfromance, handling etc but my TVR Cerbera has kinda changed all that. For all the cash that will be spent I'll have a slower car that will handle a bit better and make a similar noise but higher pitched.
All of a sudden I'm not getting anything that is a million times different than what I have just now apart from the name!
That doesnt put me off at all. just the worry it maybe not have the potential effect I expected.
What's your ideal cars then guys??? What comes after the Cerbera and why?

The next car we are aiming to get can't compete with the Cerb, so we've decided it won't be an "instead of", it's going to be an "as well as"....
Unless you going to go to a Lambo (which lets face it, are a bit big for every day use), you can't out perform a Cerb (911 Turbo will be close, but we all know what TVR drivers thinkg of 911's (I'm not trying to start an arguement - sorry any 911 drivers)), so you have to out class, or get a better? name.
We are probably going to go for 1 of the last V8 Vantages (550bhp, 550 Ib/ft & 2 tonnes of British Beef). Why ? More power, more torque, almost as fast as the Cerb, and still British to the core....

I'd quite like a 355, but part of the appeal of the Cerb is the reaction from other people. You can drive a Cerb with dignity, you'll only ever be another twat in a Ferrari
Opening out this a bit, what would I replace the Cerb with? I wouldn't mind a Gallardo but that's still a bit poncy. I've done the japanese supercar thing although I'd like to see what happens with the new RX7.
A Cobra would be good at some point, but I'd be happy with a good replica.
A car with good performance, a good image, useable as an only car and will fit in the garage (and that isn't a Porsche
... well, maybe a GT3 if I was pushed) not much to choose from really...

jamster, in reply to your comment on the other thread (horses for courses). I'd stick with the Cerbera. I love the fact it is 100% English. Mine is starmist blue which is fairly dark but sparkles in the sunshine, I find this gives the car an understated appearance which I prefer to the bottle red Ferrari.
I do like Ferraris and there was definitely more excitement racing one than most other cars I can think of. But as you said, the Cerbera is quicker. I don't have nitrons (yet
) but from what I hear the improvement in handling would bring it closer to the Ferrari especially where every day road use is concerned (may be talking out of my ass here).
As for next car.........Thought Nobel but looking closely at one they are too impractical even for a weekend car. Would love a Diablo but need to save a few more pennies. Am tempted by an Overfinch Range Rover for something completely different

This is interesting,
I personally don't have a clue where to go next apart from backwards as I can't see past the TVR, I wuld love a Diablo, test drove one last year and loved it until he told me the cost of certain things that go wrong, Clutch for example £5k to get fixed OHH MY GOD
Would still love one though.

That'll be 'BRITISH' then Arcbeer!!!

Funny you should start this thread jamster...
Family visit yesterday, my brother-in-law just bought a RHD 355 GTS F1 in silver and does look very nice indeed.
Pulled up and the front door was already open
Something a Ferrari cannot do from a quarter of a mile away
Don't get me wrong, I'll have one but probably not for long, which is why this Ferrari had plenty plenty owners since it was born 6 years ago. Give me an F40/Enzo to rinse about, no problem.
We went out in the 355 and you know when cars always feel quicker as a passenger?? Well this didn't feel quicker as a passenger as my Cerb does driving it!
OK, it's a Ferrari, it's got the name, the gizmos, looks lovely, still don't see many about etc etc...
....but IMHO, the Cerb has more looks, noise, presence, rarity, speed, power, uniqueness etc etc....
Passer by's were more interested in the Cerb than the horse
Later on he looked properly inside the Cerb to view the room in the back cos my beautiful niece is only 18 months old and the Ferrari cannot accomodate the three of them, so I said "yeah, I've had four in mine and with it full I'll still out do a 355"......
....Love it.

Don't get me started
! I never read the rulebook that said you're allowed to be proud of your home Country except if you were born in England. Although northern, last time I looked Blackpool was still in England. Besides, if us Englishmen don't make comments such as this the rest of the home nations won't be able to call us arrogant and then what will there be to complain about

BTDT.. I went TVR, Ferrari, TVR. They're different - thats all you can say really. Each has its advantages and disadvantages. Both the 360 and 550/575 are fabulous cars but what do you value? Britishness? Acceleration? handling, noise, looks? Reliability, real world useability, costs?
In my (limited) experience the Cerb is quicker than a 360 and makes a great noise but so what, there ain't that much in it and you can't be human not to go weak kneed when a fezza engine hits 8000rpm.
Do it, its the only way you'll know. You can always come back. These days you can buy 3 3yr old cerbies for the price of a 3 yr old 360!!

Trip to the states later in the year to get a Viper, reasons, much like the Cerb, rare, big engine, noisy & fast as f**k.
I test drove a Ferrari 550 a couple of weeks ago. I've never been a huge fan, especially of the 3xx range, but I thought I'd give this a try to see the difference between it & the Cerb (didn't have any real intention of buying one)... Within about two minutes of getting into it I realised I that I didn't suit the car as much as it didn't suit me, it was definitely more about owning a Ferrari than driving one, and that's not for me.
I've always wanted a DB7, but I don't like the interior, and I'm not keen on the DB9. I think the Vanquish would have to be top of the list as it's about the same performance as the Cerb, and British. That's the only car I could really see as a "replacement". I've always liked the XJ-220, too, but it's getting a bit old and STILL costs at least £120k. And a Lambo would be great if I ditched the whole British thing.
I think, realistically, in a few years I'll get something nicer as a day-to-day car (BMW/Jag/Audi), and something more "extreme" as a fun car - a Noble or a Sagaris, perhaps... Assuming I win the lottery.

Well for something completly different... I placed an order for a 34ft American motorhome today with an 8.1 litre vortec engine with 480ft/pounds of torque.. and decided to keep the Cerb ! Did think of a 355 spider but thought Naaaaaaaa need this TVR for the finer things in life like making me smile from ear to ear everytime I drive it and thinking that there is NOTHING on the road today that can realistically come close for the money so there, rant over.
I am going to TVR from Ferrari. Keeping the Fezzas of course but have been intrigued by TVR ever since I heard a Wedge roar past"literally".
I have delayed the purchase of the two TVRs I want(Cerb&Tuscan)for almost a year due to concerns about keeping them in the U.S with no TVR specialists I know of out there. Not being a qualified mechanic I have wondered whether it would make more sense to by a V8 cerb as maybe these would be easier to work on in the U.S. Anyone have any ideas?
Never worried about one car I have going faster then the other. I just want the cars I buy to give me new and different experiences. A few MPH between cars after 170mph doesn't make any difference as(apart from Germany)I won't be doing much over 150mph(allegedly. I like them to handle differently so that when I get in I need to focus on the drive ahead foor each specific car. Sort of like eating a different meal everyday cooked by a different chef.
Mmmm food.
If I could get any new car my heart desired it would be the Zonda spider and maybe a spin in the Koenissegg(sp). For now however, I want to experience what I've heard rumbling and roaring the other way on my way to Heathrow airport and what I've been reading about avidly on PH.
