Hi, looking to buy a vxr with approx 9 months Vauxhall warranty left to run, has or does anyone know of any problems of transfering it on to a new owner, and what are Vauxhall like with any claims ?.

warranty is with the car surely ? not the owner. as far as vauxhall and warranties go well i think it depends a lot on the dealer and the problem you are having and most importantly the direction of the prevailing wind at the time of the warranty claim

If you're buying it from a Vauxhall dealer, you should get 1 years NetworkQ that even covers the clutch.

Warranty is ok for the obvious bits. Usual caveats for wear and tear type claims - brakes and paintwork. Check the paint on the door handles and brakes for judder before you part with your money.

Get the warranty repair history for the car and see what's been done - might help you work out if any of the usual faults haven't been done then so you can get the most out of warranty before it runs out.

Thanks for advice, hoping to buy private with some warranty left on the car, as you said and as I have read on this forum Vauxhall can be indifferant regarding claims, at least they can not get out of any claims by using transfer of ownership as a excuse ?.

Not entirely sure, but surely not??? A warranty is not worth having if it doesn't last the full three years - pre reg would suffer if only two owners were covered.

And not the first keeper? Sounds likely.

Sorry should of said first and second owners, there is something in one of the handbooks about it. The third owner only gets a limited amount of cover ( i could be wrong, it has been known but dont tell my OH) biggrin

3 year warranty is with the car, not the owner.

Just found it, P28 of the service booklet.

"The unexpired part of the warranty is transferable to a second owner without reference to vauxhall motors limited."

It dont say if there is a charge or restrictions for it though, i must be thinking of another car (must check facts before posting on the interbeb thingy).

Couple more questions, I assume the car must be bog standard no aftermarket exhaust headers ect, and serviced at the stated intervals but does not have to be carried out by a Vauxhall/Vxr dealer ?
