Stair runner - how does it work on curved steps?
Discussion
The Mrs has decided that she wants a stair rods and a stair runner on our main stairs, but I can't work out how it will work on the bottom couple of stairs which are curved.
The 'straight' part of the second stair is 350mm wide and runners seem to be around 600mm wide so there would be a gap on one side as the stair curves away (if you see what I mean).
My options would seem to be
1. A very narrow runner, on the straight part of the stairs
2. Bend the bottom couple of rods and fit a wider runner
3. Forget it and have a normal stair carpet
Anyone have any ideas?

We have rods fitted all the way down the staircase which has a 180 degree turn half way up. The carpet guy we use cuts the stair runs individually on non-square stairs and has a continous run on the square stairs. For the bottom step he used a gripper rod attached to the face of the step, and gripper rods at the back face of each step underneath a stair rod.
Be aware any pattern will be a no-no on a curvey step. Seriously difficult to pattern match.

Thanks guys - food for thought!
Was in the local carpet place today and they want £40 EACH for stair rods which look the same to my untrained eye as the ones on eBay at £60 for 13...
Similar issue, but we found the modern repro ones are significantly thinner walled tubing and that the acorn ends we needed were plastic hollow things as opposed to solid brass. Same with the rods; if you were hit with an original rod you know about it, vice verse for a modern one.Was in the local carpet place today and they want £40 EACH for stair rods which look the same to my untrained eye as the ones on eBay at £60 for 13...
Try eBay and a bit of Brasso on some original ones.
