Why are all the MPs and Lords caught red-handed for fiddling their expenses (latest story of a Peer who fiddled £140k by nominating a house which he neither owned nor rented as his main residence when he actually lived in London here ) simply enjoying 15 minutes of infamy, yet an MEP who does the same kind of thing looks like he's facing jail?
Why aren't they all going to jail? (or at the very least being removed and banned from public life)

For years i have thought we would do better without a permanent government. Every ten years we should just vote on new laws and changes that are needed and then ignore the whole business until the next time. It would get rid of all this meddling and save us billions!Westy Pre-Lit said:

A version of the Swiss system where you vote for your local representative who looks after the day to day parliamentary goings on, with referendums for anything major or if more than 50,000 petition for one on a subject. The big problem I can see is that we essentially have a two party system and to a lesser or greater extent they are both as bad.
If we can get rid of the whip system, make each MP almost independent, then they will be able to freely vote for reform / policy without fear of what the whips say they should do
It won’t happen of course, turkeys voting for xmas and all that
