HELP LOCKED out

On attempting to change the battery I have locked myself out of the car. Removed the battery and shut the doors and now of course there is no power to the door lock solonoids. I have got into the car in the traditional way but really need the passenger door open to get access to the battery box area to install the new battery. One option will be to use jump leads to connect new battery to battery clamps to activate the door locks but room do do this is limited/cramped and I am no midget. Is there any way I can supply power direct into the electical system from the battery without going via the battery clamps. Is there a connection I can make via the cigarette lighter or the altanator just to get the doors open. After that I willhave enogh room to connect the new battery.

if you have got into the car via the "traditional method", why not just turn the door knob to open the passenger side?

Oh, PS, similar problem to get into the boot on the V8S, I just zap 12V onto the alternator output terminal and earther it via the engine. Wouldn't take enough current to start but OK just to fire a solenoid.

tried the central mounted door knob but that does not work so it must be electrically sourced i.e non mechanical activation of the door lock mechanism.

IIRC the central knob (cue podie) mechanically activates a bowden cable! It should work regardless of any power.
