Drove an Alfa Brera today….
Discussion
Completely underwhelmed… It just felt ordinary, although not sure what I was expecting….
Main reason I would not buy though is that I just didn’t fit. Although not particularly tall (6 feet) my head hit the roof unless I had the seat tilted well back. The seat was in its lowest position. Even tried one with the glass roof and this was as bad as my head still hit the roof rail.
I was also sad to see that Alfa still have quality problems…. The gear knob was loose, the seat tilt adjuster felt like it was about to break and the indicator stalk felt loose. All on a car with less than 3000 mile. You would have thought the dealer would have fixed things before letting a potential customer out in it!

The Brera has been a funny car really. There are those who really don't like it (like Cirvy), those who don't want to like it for whatever reason (most of PH) and those that do like it (owners). I've had mine three years now and I genuinely don't know what I would swap it for which would give me the same mix of style, luxury, comfort and ground covering ability. It really is a great touring car over mixed roads. I still find the interior a lovely place to be and it's practical enough for what I need (one wife, one 6 year old). Granted it's not perfect, but I don't know a car that is. Maybe the new 1750TBi will answer some of the dislikes?
My son got a 2.4 diesel last week. It is very beautiful and perfectly proportioned imho. One of the few cars on the road which look as stylish from behind as they do from the front. I took it for a drive. It felt and sounded very sporty. Steering a little heavy, somewhat restricted rear vision, plenty of toys and extremely comfortable. Worth its place in the garage on form alone but plenty of function too.
This is my missus car. A 3.2 Brera SV6 Prodrive. Looks and drives fantastic. Thats what happens when Alfa try to get it right by giving 500 to Prodrive for development.
Agreed the standard Brera is a bit pants, but if you tweak it a little with decent suspension, lighter alloys and additional ARB's then the 260bhp can be put to good use.
