m5 keys missing

You can get the other keys "removed" from the EWS system, but they will still have the mechanical feature of opening the doors, and releasing the steering lock.
BMW might do this, or maybe not know how to, but a good aftermarket diagnostic and coding specialist will be able to.
That's good to know - will remember to get the girlfriends key removed if I fall out with her BMW might do this, or maybe not know how to, but a good aftermarket diagnostic and coding specialist will be able to.

Don't buy it. I bought an M3 with one of the main keys missing. Six months later it was stolen from outside my house without any of my keys going missing.
Blimey, thats a worry!I thought that if you bought another key, for spare, when that was programmed, all keys not present at the time became electronically useless. Does anyone know if this is right?

If you code new keys, all keys you want to use need to be programmed and any not there don't work anymore.
Scary about the M3 though!

looking to buy a m5 but the dealer has only 1 key.this worries me somewhat as someone else might have the keys.how much are duplicate keys and are they from main dealer.any advice would be great.
If you will cry when your hard earned cash leaves black tyre marks up the road without you driving it , dont buy it .is it worth the risk?
Don't let a missing key put you off buying a second hand car. As others have said, you can get BMW to deprogram the keys that you don't have in your possession but be aware that a new key for an E60 M5 could cost circa £200.
Would you be more at ease if the car came with both keys? Who's to say the previous (devious) keeper didn't get a 3rd backup key made when they owned the car that they could use to steal your pride and joy a few weeks later?
Always best to get all keys depgrammed/reprogrammed when buying any second hand car if you are concerned about it being stolen with a spare key in the future.

Talking of keys, my E39 M5 spare key has gone flat, it's charged while in the ignition. Obviously it will not open the car now. If I open the car with the main key, then use the other key to start it and go for a drive, can I do this or will the electronics realise I have used a different key and imobilise the car?. I obviously don't want to end up with 2 keys not working. Any advice appreciated, Thanks.

Open with charged key and drive it with the flat one. That works fine and should charge up the flat one.Gassing Station | M Power | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
