E39 530D considering one....
Discussion
Hi guys, I'm looking at a 530d as a daily driver for the next few month's as follows.
circa £4k
around 2000-01
100-120k miles
Auto or manual
the usual options
I will be having it remapped as well..
Any good buying guides or things to watch out for, apart from the usual use every button?
Thanks in advance
Dave

There was an 02 plate with 80k on it for £3k in classified last night.
I'm sure it was a lovely car in full working order with no dodgy story behind it.Sounds far too cheap to be legit.

At £3k I'd go in with my eyes very open indeed. It's either a bargain, a banger, or a scam. Or a horrible ex-plod spec.

thole to look at a car I don't need.To get a reasonable facelift 530d for 4k you will have to go the auction/trade route (and obviously be very careful as there are some 530d's with major issues floating around the auction houses) - you'll be lucky to get something private at that price and the only way you'll get one from a trader is ebay no warranty route.
That said, it is not impossible but you'll need to do some legwork, be prepared to travel & waste a few days.
A 530i is probably easier at that price and you may get lucky and find a sport with some decent options. They also tend to have less issues. Reckon on 20mpg town, 26-28mpg open road and about 32mpg on a gentle motorway run (all auto figures - add 2-3mpg for manual).
