Posting expensive stuff to Germany?

I'll have a parcel, it'll be small, estimated at less than a kilo, which needs to spend a few days in Germany, but it could do with insurance.

The only problem is it'll have a value in the region of 3.5 -4k.

Any idea on a cost? It seems many courier companies don't really advertise the insurance they offer, Parcelforce seem to be coming in at over 180 quid.

I might as well fly over for that and hand it to the guy myself.

The RAF used to run a nightly delivery service to Germany. The goods usually arrived a bit damaged, mind.

My experience of international posr insurance is it is very cheap, reflecting the low risk, my problem is always that a high insurance value triggers high import duties, not aproblem between Uk and Germany.

Anyone to recommend?
I'm sure it's safe as houses, but it's a vital bit of kit i'd like to be looked after.

The RAF unfortunately don't collect, and they said delivery will be within a 5 metre radius of the front door. They also wanted architectural plans or aerial photos before quoting a price.
