Don't bother changing the dipped beams to HID's done it and they don't really work at all as the light reflects in the wrong place.
I use these in the dipped, same colour as the HID's and alot more light gets out. H11 Osram Night Breaker +90% 12v 55w (OSNBH11) from www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk.
I use a pair of HID's in the fogs, I had to modify them to take the bulb but they are really bright, I have them facing really low.

I am not sure if the VT's are the same as the Monaro. Mine was H4 main Beam & H11 High Beam. I always just get the cheap sets off Ebay and have never had a problem. A friend of mine does all the Auto electrics for the American Import Centre and they use the same kits!

I've had this kit fitted: www.hids4u.co.uk/h11-ultimate-carpro-hid-xenon-conversion-kit-c-21-p-1-pr-77.html
It's been fantastic. Beam pattern is spot on, 100% brighter and whiter. I had tried the Osram Nightbreakers as well, but I blew 3 bulbs in as many weeks, as they seemed to be overheating for some reason.
Just avoid cheap Chinese kits, they're a false economy.

That's where my kits are from, have three sets. put them back in as my battery is fine now and yes they are good, sorry for the post saying they don't work, was a flat battery that caused the problem. Advice, turn you lights on after the car is started because of the current required to ignite the lamps (as they warm up) and then there should not be a problem like I had.

I had this problem - fitted a set of HIDs and took them out again (although the ballasts are still there) because the beam pattern went all screwy.I would say, I have fitted a set of HIDs to another car with projector headlights (Fiat Coupe) and the difference is, erm, night and day, with no discernible difference in the beam pattern and no problems at MOT time. The ones in the Fiat are excellent and although my car is standard and has been restored to (probably) better than factory condition, the HIDs are one mod which will be staying put.
I also tried a pair of 65W bulbs in the dipped beam on the Ro and again, they messed up the beam pattern badly. Even tried painting the tips with black paint as per the 55W bulbs but that didn't help. If anyone's got any tips how to make the HIDs shine properly, would be glad to hear!
This has got my attention as I have just ordered a set from HIDS Direct, got them off E-bay but they have their own web site. can't see why the beam spread would change as it's not the bulbs but the headlight unit it's self that does that, all these bulbs are, is much brighter ?? Hope mine will be ok, how can you tell the beam spread is worng? do you only find this out at MOT time?
A mate of mine fitted s et to his merc s class, and they made a huge difference.

Yeah, as above, made a massive diffrence to my Coupe but on the Monaro, you can see the beam is all wrong just in driving it at night. Agree, can't see why the bulb would make any difference, but it certainly does, as with the 65W as well.A mate of mine fitted s et to his merc s class, and they made a huge difference.
