My 30 year old concrete garage floor is showing it's age and is very rough and uneven and it's getting on my nerves. It's not breaking up or anything it's just very rough and trying to slide under a car on a skateboard thing isn't easy - it gets caught up in the rough concrete. So I'd like it all nice and smooth.

I'd like to pour some self levelling epoxy compound type stuff on the floor, the sort of stuff you get in industrial factories and then sort of trowel it level and then a day or so later have a nice smooth floor. But what's available on the market? Looked at concrete screed but that has to be 1-2inches think and that'd stop the garage door opening and seems like hard work what with cement mixers and so on.

I can't seem to find anything easy that's DIY. Found a few professionals who want around £1K to do it for me but I've no intention of spending anything like that. Sort of £100 would maybe be OK?

So anybody got any ideas?

Costco plastic tiles are quite good....I did my 20ft x 20ft garage for £650

I thought he said £100...

The thing with self levelling is that it great for lino tiles and such but not as garage finish as I fear it would crack. How about hiring a concrete sander. Messy I know but it will take away the roughness

Feel free to offer some....
If you had taken the time to read my post instead of getting all huffy and throwing the dummy out of the pram you will see I did offer suggestions. Real ones within budget.

Now sit away down and breath...

This is good:

Probably need two tubs so a bit more than £100 but worth the extra.

It's used in factories with heavy vehicle movements so will work fine in your garage. Their epoxy floor coatings are pretty good too.

Thanks for the advice chaps and StevieBee's stuff seems just what I'm after. As you say probably need 2 or 3 tubs (I forgot to say it's a double garage, but I can live with that cost. A job for the spring though since it seems temperature's a bit critical and it's getting a bit chilly now.

But thanks again everybody for your suggestions. The idea of plastic tiles hadn't occured to me but I think it'd be a lot of work and expense just for a garage. But thanks for the idea

Oh and play nicely kiddies, pack up with the prams and teddies throwing. it's not needed you know
