I'll have about £1500 to spend on a watch.

I'm after some ideas on what to go for- I love the Fortis B42

& the design of the U-boat style watches (I haven't looked into the prices properly, but some seem to be around my budget)

I'm after quite a big watch as smaller watches are lost on me, i'm not really into bling, prefering functional design. Erm, & I don't like metal straps eitherbiggrin

Any ideas?

With that budget you've plenty to choose from, If it's all function over form I'd look at Sinn, Glycine or Ball for some really nice steel at a sensible price.

out of those two choices I would go with the Fortis. Its a very nice watch

A sinn 756 is in your price although not the diapal version. bracelet or starp is in your pricerange. You can also get it PVD as well like that u boat. I have on ein black and love it

my watch

does the watch have to be new?

The Fortis looks nice & they are good watches (I've had 3)
Sinn or Glycine as already mentioned are good options. Don't know enough about Ball to comment. The Sinn U Series in particular are big, robust watches without a hint of bling. Oris are another firm that make big watches that are reasonably priced.

I personally wouldn't buy a U-boat - do a search on here.

Another possible choice is the 45mm version of the Omega Planet Ocean.

As ever, buying pre-owned gets you more bang for your buck & reduces the depreciation hit if you sell on.

Some very good advice above RE Sinn and Omega.

I'm really not sure the U-Boat is worth the price at all. I think it's a fashion watch that has jumped onto the oversize bandwagon and they really cannot claim any of the Panerai or Anonimo 'heritage' either.

I have a Fortis B-42 (chrono but not a GMT) and wholly recommend it!

Thanks for all the replies.

I spotted the Fortis range in an independant watchmakers & fell in love with the B-42.

You can spec it with a glass back for an extra £70 which I thought was a nice touch, also adds a little height to it.

I have absolutely no idea what a PVA thingy is, or the difference what the difference between chrono and GMT means to the watch.

That Sinn looks very nice, reminds me- sort of, of my old watch.
Which I lost in a house movebanghead

With regard to the Swiss Army theme- Victorinox any good?
Inparticular, this one;

You won't go far wrong with the Fortis, good make.

PVD is the black coating found on most 'black' watches.
A chrono is a chronograph - the stop watch part.
GMT is a second hour hand you can set to a second time zone.

Otherwise, as per the suggestions above. Good hunting.
