That is very cool! I wonder how long it will take for this to be widespread. Looks like there is a glimmer of hope for wounded veterans etc.

I saw while ago a lady (US) who was injured in Iraq and a robotic element to her arm which I thought was impressive at the time. This will just be a step up by the looks of things.

I think its a nice interim step between now and when we develop the ability to grow new body parts from adult stem cells.

I'm desperate for our company to get involved in stem cell research. The potential benefit from that stuff is absolutely incredible.

I mean bks to organ transplants or cyborg limbs. Turn up and get a DNA sample then you'll have your own perfectly matched body part in 30 days.

No transplant issues, no more clumsey man-made attempts at replicating nature and no horrible anti-rejection medication that gives you cancer.

It really would be a boon for medicine if this kind of cloning became commonplace.

Massive issue for pharmaceutical companies and doctors though.

Surgeons would become little more than parts replacers and wages would probably reflect that. Same dilemma for pharmaceuticals, if you can get new organs why bother medicating faulty ones?

Just a thought.

Plus it makes you think if people would just get into the mindset of "oh well, I can abuse my liver/lungs, cos Dr.McCloney can just grow me a new set if mine conks out"

I think George Best was very much proof that mentality will always be an issue. Another problem is also that health care systems like in the USA will do anything if you pay them enough so that mentality will be easily supported.

I think the best solution is just not to be poor. I myself plan on becoming rich and getting at least two hearts just to play it safe.

"Yes Doctor I've never ridden a motorcycle before but I've decided I'm going to buy a Yamaha R1 in the middle of winter. Put me down for a family sized bag of limbs and organs please."

Brilliant stuff. You could be like Captain Scarlet.

Cyborg limbs would be cool. I personally would like a head mounted laser, like the Borg.
