Maclaren pushchair recall

There's a massive recall from Maclaren for their pushchairs. From what I can make out of the article it might be all pushchairs.

This is a very real threat - Mrs Puggit lost a finger nail earlier this year.

Surely this is just darwinism in action? No child with vaguely attentive parents is going to have problems here.

As I said above, Mrs Puggit managed to lose a finger nail in such an episode, without a child in sight...

No action being taken in UK, because according to Maclaren spokesman, "there are a lower number of similar reported incidents amongst the considerably higher number of Maclaren buggies sold in Europe annually relative to the US market".

Is this his way of saying American parents/children are a bit thicker/more likely to sue?

Accidents happen and with folding stuff (chairs, campbeds, prams, etc) surely everyone knows to take more care - some of those old campbeds eat you alive if you're not careful!

I cannot think of a single pushchair that I've seen that wouldn't injure a child's fingers if the fingers were caught in the mechanism during folding.

I don't think UK are doing a recall, according to BBC news this am. They are just giving out advice re: keeping kid away from chair when unfolding it.

I'd have thought a simple cover over hinge would have sorted/ prevented the problem in the first place though.
