Sorry if there is already a thread relating to this but not seen anything yet. Just wondered what was going on in the world of the btcc? It just seems to be the quietest off season ever, I know its only november but surely if any new cars were being built for next year we would have heard something by now. There's been no hint of any manufacturer entries and even the bigger 'privateer' teams WSR, RML etc haven't given much idea of there plans for next year. Think the series could struggle to top this season which must have been up there with the best btcc seasons ever unless a few top teams and drivers are announced soon (and hopefully some newer cars) or is this going to be a bit of a 'holding season' until the new regs are fully introduced.

Sorry but I call BS on this statement.I was at the Knockhill round this year and watched a few of the rounds on TV after that too. I think its quite entertaining, even if I do wish they would be a bit harder on penalties for shunting. A bit of rubbing is fine but blatently shunting someone off should be delt with. Still we managed to get a champion who could drive cleanly so not all is lost.
A bit of an odd question but what will happen to the S2000 cars once the regulations change? Many of the privateer teams have got a lot of money tied up in a car that can't race anywhere in two years time. Will they be able to stick an NGTC engine in one and carry on (except for the Civics, Astras, Leons and the Focus as they will all be too short)?
EDIT: The BMWs will be out too because RWD is banned. Doesn't leave many cars.

S2000 machinery will be able to continue on till 2013 at least, they will be equalised up to that point. I'm sure we will end up with RWD in the new regs, it's just TOCA doesn't want to go to the expense of getting another set of spec equipment designed and built if no one wants to use it.
Forster Motorsport seem to be about the only team making much noise right now. They were testing the ex Mat Jackson BMW at Silverstone last Monday. They plan to have two for next year.
Depending on what you read online it seems Triple Eight may have shut up shop with very few staff left, this could just be normal motorsport practice, especially when you have no definitive 2010 BTCC plans.

You're talking about the supertouring era. Major manufacturers spending big bucks on the cars and the race budgets and professional drivers. Those were the halcyon days for sure.10 Pence Short said:

ks drivers do get punished, its just not shouted about. Theres been quite a few drivers given points on their racing licence and recieved fines.Allyc85 said:

I'd be surprised if anyone uses them. Most of the cars that are around at the moment already have engines and the ones that don't would require redesigning to fit the non standard engine. With the costs this wouldadd plus the possibility of intorducing unreliability it doesn't really make sense to use one until the new rules come in and it can be fitted into cars built from scratch. Of course I could be wrong but it would seem to be an over complicated route for 2010 when there are currently plenty of current spec cars available with engines.

One thing which is no secret it that Matt Neil will end up in a TD Civic, the question is who will be in the number 2 car - Johnny Herbert or Dave Pinkney, and that depends on sponsorship rather than talent. Lets hope next year is as exciting as this year!

ks drivers do get punished, its just not shouted about.
