I have just bought a 170 ps A4 Avant and its not peforming or returning the mpg that i expected.

Can this be chipped to rectify this ?
Has anybody done this ?
Can anyone recommend a dealer/agent to complete this ?
Any idea what this would cost ?
If done, can it be disconnected while in the dealers under warranty ?

I remapped my 170ps B7 A4 around 6months ago (approx 20k miles).

my previous miles to a tank were 600 but as low as 500 frown depending on the roads/traffic.

I have since seen over 720 to a tank and the lowest I've returned whither it be hard driving, b style roads, traffic or all of the above is just over 620miles.

I opted for the superchip bluefin (www.mybluefin.co.uk) I think this ups power to around 210bhp although I've never had the car r/r'd to confirm what it actually puts out.

Instant increase in performance and MPG, I'm unsure if this was my imagination ! but the mpg and performance increased the more miles it covered (obviously to a limit), maybe someone can confirm ? do these things "learn" you're driving style ????

I opted for the bluefin as it was on par cost and power claim wise with others but had the added benefit that you can DIY it.

Red Dot Racing in Enfield did an A6 TDi for me recently and the difference is unreal.

They also give you a rolling road session before and after.

All for £250

Whats it actually doing to the gallon??

My 170CR Skoda Superb has averaged 43mpg tank to tank since i have owned at and gives over 50mpg on long trips

The answer is yes the dealer can see its been remapped but they wouldnt normally look

The dealer can't see the remap BUT can tell how many times you're ECU has been flashed ie remapped.

This could have been done at factory 2 or 3 times, I've also had my ECU flashed by Audi as a recall so who's to stay if the counter was at say 5 this hasn't been a combination of the both ???

A decent tuning company will roll the ECU counter back, so when the car is plugged into diagnostics at the dealer they don't see a mismatch.

Personally I wouldn't go with the Bluefin, it not only ups the ECU counter every time it is used, but it also triggers error codes in just about every ECU in the car, from climate module through to light module, it also leaves a time code for each error. Now the dealers have to clear these errors, and they could only be caused by a remap, so it does shout out a bit too much for my liking.

I think you're best to get a proper remap from someone who clears all error codes and rolls the ECU back, they would only be able to tell if it was mapped if they downloaded the map and looked at it, which they would never do unless you had blown your engine and were trying to get out of covering the costs.

I haven't experienced any fault codes with the bluefin but I have heard of others having issues not under the Audi model range though, such as seats.

Everyone has a different preference so if you think the counter maybe an issue then a visit to a remap dealer with a r/r before and after is your best bet.

Thanks to all for the feedback.

Audi have remapped it twice in the last 3 weeks to try and improve mpg. It started at 38 mpg on a run and now has creeped up to 42. This is motorway driving staying below 80mph.

I would appear a good idea to chip, but to choose a agent wisely.
