OK, given the formula;

z = (x-y)/x

Can someone rearrange the equation to find x. Thanks!

no points for drawing an arrow at x and saying here it is.

A complete div at math but I'll have a guess for you lot to laugh at

x= (x+y)*z

z = (x-y)/x
zx = (x-y)
zx + y = x
z+y = 1

ETA: Oops, missed the bit about finding x. My answer doesn;t really help.

OK. First multiply each side by x.

zx = x - y

Then add y to each side

zx + y = x

Therefore

x = zx + y

Errrm. Why do you ask?
so finishing this off
subtract zx from each side

x - zx =y

factor out x

x(1-z) = y

divide both sides by (1-z)

x = y/(1-z)

He deleted it because x = zx + y doesnt actually let someone solve for x - since x is on both sides.

Which is what I did also....

Don starts on the right lines but if you need to find x then you need x and only x on one side thus:
zx = x - y, then gathering terms with x
zx-x=-y, then taking x out
x(z-1)=-y, then divide both sides by x's multiplier

tarra, roll on the drums, /Paul Daniels it's magic //Paul Daniels
x=-y/(z-1)

Jet

Me too.

So then multiply both sides by z;

zx = x-y

then subtract x from each side;

zx-x = -y

factorise to get;

x(z-1) = -y

divide both sides by (z-1);

x = -y/(z-1)
