As the one off mine is now missing. Garage across the road bled the brakes for me, and obviously didn't put it back on. Or does anyone know if it's off a vectra or similar? Cheers

Dear LawrenceF,

cling film temporarily?

Or is this a really bad suggestion and it is dissolved by brakefluid?

regards,
Jet

No, cling film's OK, with an elastic band to hold it in place. It wont cope well with the large variation in fluid volumes though, so consider it a very temporary fix, just to keep the dirt out.

Contact the fish or WP they should have spares at hand.

Got one on the way from Vauxhall, but it's been off for a few weeks! Fluid level is OK, just need to get it all out and re-bleed it all when the cap turns up.

Disagree. Brake fluid is hydroscopic, so absorbs water. When this happens, the efficiency is lower, and it will also boil at a lower temperature. The fluid will therefore need a complete change, once you get the cap.

If any fluid has sloshed on any paintwork, you need to wash it off as soon as you can.

Brake fluid absorbs moisture from the air, should never leave the cap off for long periods, if I were you, I would syphon out as much as you can and top up with fresh oil when you get the new cap.
