We are looking to roll out a new single standard image to our new desktops. The plan is to have all software that users will have/need and then lock down who has access to software through Software Restriction policies in Active Directory. Does anyone know if this will work or cause problems for when we install both MS Office and also MS Office Viewers? Basically we will restrict full office suite to the licenced users and then all others in theory will get the viewers, but will software restriction cause probs, ie do they share common files that would restrict both?

No they dont share common files.

The viewers are old and I dont believe that they can view files created with the latest office releases.

Unless of course they have released a new load of viewers recently...

why not use Office for all those with licences, and something like Sun Star Office (freebie) for the others?

Or even something like WordPad would suffice.
