Anyone had a butchers at this yet? Write ups and reviews seem pretty positive, bit pricey maybe, but a great looking coupe none the less.

Thoughts?

Bags.

Maybe in a year or two as a used car so someone else can rectify the inflated price issues for me smile

I'm confused, it looks like VW have taken a Golf, stuck an Audi S3 engine in it, changed the shape and made it more expensive than an S3. What leaves me even more confused is the Golf R is more expensive than the Scirocco R.

Having said that I think I have seen this strange situation before - top of the range VW Phaeon £75k, Audi S8 £71k.

The main reason why the Golf is more expensive is that t's AWD whereas the Rocco is FWD.

But agree VW have really increased the prices. Same spec new Golf R as my current R32 bought in 2006 is £7,500 more expensive. Almost the same price as a S4 or a Cayman.

I think it's a very ugly car. That rear is hideous. I even turned off when I found myself behind one as it was annoying me. rofl

Not at those prices.
Maybe a second had one in a few years.

The Scirocco's an acquired taste in the styling department. The R is supposed to be a very good car, but it's not quite special enough for me to justify the money. Pretty sure anyone that buys one will be very happy with it though - Sutcliffe reckons it's a better package than the Focus RS which is some praise, although his comments on the pricing are miles off the mark...

I was looking forward to the scirocco R coming out, but I think with the lack of 4WD VW have missed a trick, okay so it is less efficient and heavy and the front wheel drive can cope with the power according to reviews so far, but in the wet I should imagine it will be a bit of a handful and if you want to tune it you are already at the limit of what it can take. The price is very heavy for this sort of car, especially when coming to second hand cars, what you can get for £30k is in a different league! V10 S6? or how about a Merc CLS AMG!!

I was also thinking about one of these from when the first images of the blue R came out a ages ago. Like a lot of people though, put off by FWD, price and the lack of a V6 under the bonnet.

I like having the choice of a front wheel drive Scirocco or four wheel drive Golf. Personally I would prefer the Scirocco because it doesn't have the additional weight and complication of four wheel drive, subject to it driving well, which reports suggest it does

As much as I like the Scirocco I don't think I'd buy the R, when an Audi S3 can be had for the same money.
