Re-Soleable Shoes?

OK short of asking a cobbler, is there a way to tell if a pair of shoes is re-soleable when you buy them?

I need a new set as my current ones have perfectly serviceable uppers but the heel is worn away from driving (I don't want to be mucking about changing shoes just to drive to work) and I suspect long term I may be better off paying a little more for something repairable vs. chuck-away shoes?

Most shoes nowdays can be re soled and heeled, with the new primers and glues available now days.

Maybe look at a pair in a busy shopping area, (with a repair shop local) and ask the sales person if you can take one shoe to the repairer for advice.

Good idea but I can see them just looking at me as if I'm a bit peculiar if I did that tbh.

I was looking at something like this Ted Baker Shoes, OK not the last name in quality but the heel caught my eye as they look as if they may be re-heelable (if that's a word).

The presence of the pins in the base of the heel as seen in this pic suggests to me that they are definitely repairable.

Finding a decent cobbler can be a struggle. Timpsons are expensive and rubbish IMHO.

Also Blakeys fall out of rubber heels.

For the soles to be properly resoleable (assuming leather soles) then the edge needs to be wide enough for the stitching.

Almost all good hand made shoes (loakes, churchs, broages, sweeneys etc) will be able to be resoleable I would have thought.

Marcellus, the shoes you name are stitched through the sole on the outside of the shoe, moccasin shoes are stitched through the sole on the inside of the shoe, like the Ted Baker Moccs.

I agree with Fittster about timpsons, too busy making money to be any good, unless you can find a quite shop with staff that care and have time. Some of the busier shops just don't have time.

Next time you buy a new pair, stick some of those thin rubber soles onto them, then you won't have to get them resoled later!

Don't buy Ted Baker shoes - they're ste! Pair I had the soles went through witin 4 weeks!

Suggestions welcome. I like the style of the Ted Bakers, not convinced by the quality, but then the likes of Loakes, Barkers even in similar styles look a little too formal though of course they are repairable.

I hate buying shoes.

Oh, they need to go with jeans or grey trousers so I figure black as brown with anything other than jeans seems to get you looked at as if you're weird.

Aside from my trainers all my shoes are welted english made jobbies. Not only or they as comfy as slippers but will last years...and good shoes say a lot, so i've been told

Maybe I should just pony up for a pair of Sweeney's as I really do seem to keep coming back to the fact that I like the look of them, but god are they expensive!
