I'm faced with the fact that original wheels
are like "rocking horse " and if you can find them, they are fetching silly prices on e bay and at breakers etc

So what I'm looking to do is to get a set of 16" or 17" wheels that look similar, but more importantly, do not upset the handling.

I've read all the posts about what offsets to get, but is there anyone here who has actually fitted aftermarket wheels and that they are really happy with?

My main concern has to be that i don't want the car tramlining more than it had to.

if so what size tyres have you fitted and what make / model of rim did you go for.

What style of "original" wheel are you looking to match?

There was a red Griff at Back Home last year with a set of 17" compomotive split rims which were a dead ringer for the original OZ multispokes. Looked the business.

Theres a set of TVR 16"s closing today on Ebay that look very nice.. currently at about £140 for the 4.

If I still had my Chimaera I'd be tempted..

The OZ wheels as on a certain Mr Morgan's red griff look great, either that or 500 wheels would be good.

But they are cerbera wheels, and don't really want to go down that road, not that they would fit anyway!!!

Those wheels are 5 stud so they're not going to fit standard griff hubs.

true, but any local macine shop can re-drill a set of hubs for you.... about £10 a wheel a few years ago. in Bettle circles this was common as muck practice to do as Empi 5 spokes all came with a 5 stud fitting, yet later beetles were 4 stud.

Cheers
Matt.

Hummm you really going to trust an alloy that's presumably had 4 out of the 5 holes welded up and then another 3 drilled in? Maybe on an old chugger like a beetle but I wouldn't want to be doing 140 around the track on them Rich...

you don't drill the wheels, you can weld the holes in the steel hub and drill that ...

You can buy wheels as blanks, ie no holes, and then get them drilled.
Some wheel manufacturers will probably account for any PCD supplied though, especially the big ones like OZ.
I have seen blanks in a wheel shop waiting for a customer to collect before. They do look strange with no holes!

Indeed, this is how my Racelines were produced, I was refering more to the idea of buying a 5 stud alloy off eBay and converting it to 4 stud! Mind you as has been pointed out it would be simple to have the TVR hub/brake ocnversion an fit those 16" Tamora wheels as they are. Rich...

I still don't know how you got that thought from my original post.. I did say getting the HUBS re-drilled... anyway, not to worry
