Quality Rockers?

I need to replace the rockers and shafts as upon inspection, mine are quite badly scored.

There seems to be a massive price variety of rockers and shafters..cheap OEM or expensive genuine parts.

How can you tell the difference quality wise and I am thinking that a stealth cam and double valve springs (still hydraulic lifters) require top notch kit due the additional valve stresses.

Do the cheap rockers still have 602153/4 stamped on them making it hard to distinguish between OEM and genuine?

tips and advice gladly accepted.

You could always fit the steel items, I gather they're pretty much fit and forget although there may be some valve control issues lurking if high rev's were on the agenda

Why not just get them along with the cam, pretty sure V8d do it enough to know they have decent components in stock. Dr Rob will give you sensible advice as long as you give him an idea of what you want..

I am in the same situation Lindsay.

I spoke to Shuan at V8D yesterday, enquiring about complete pre assembled rockers and shaft assy.

They cant get good rockers at the moment.

They are developing some adjustable 'roller rockers ' though but couldnt tell me when they would be available. (could be a few months yet)

They sound great to me, but dont know if I can wait that long.

Shaun did advise me that usually the wear is on the shaft, which then isnt a problem to get, but I definately have at least one worn rocker

don`t forget to talk to Paul at V8Tuner as well, also very knowledgable with RV8 engines, I bought my steel rockers along with cam, lifters and timing chain set,............. good chap to deal with.

I'll get some local ones here in Sydney.. it's a horrible feeling as I know they will probably be crap..despite being rather expensive..

It's a pity.. I am happy to spend the $$.. but despite labels of "never had a problem" and "the best money can buy" I have this sinking feeling that buying OEM rockers of a generic origin is a mistake.

TVR Power claim' genuine' at £12.00 each
V8 Tuner make no claim but work out at less than a fiver each
Real Steel 'standard' are £5.46
V8D can't get 'good' rockers

Now for me price isnt really the issue as I dont want to do the job twice.

Who has access to the original OEM rockers?

I bought some so called genuine rockers once, not from anyone on your list, within 100 miles of use 3 of the hardened pads had fallen off of the ally rockers, found later that they may have been made in China, so went with the steel ones from v8tuner, fit and forget

RRockers are moving into a whole new economic territory

OP if you are happy to re-use know 'kosha' rockers with new shafts I know of 2 (genuine TVR) sets @20-30k removed for roller rocker upgrades, which predate the import problems. I'm not sure but Tubbs may still have a set of steel rockers, if not I can get Cliffs old steel ones brought over in just over a week?

not sure who still does rollers, probably have to get some from the states, I bought a set from Titan about 2 years ago, never used them and sold them on, pretty sure they are hard to source, but someone may know more about them.

Have you got any spares Alan, I think we could do with a hording some if any part sets come up

You have to be a bit cautious IMHO as plenty of some other brands that are advertised for use don't have any allowance for the valve/pushrod offset. Getting the roller centred over the valve stem and cup over the pushrod would seem essential to me?

Hmm I have had no issues with mine and have run them for 3 years along with some of Robs modified heads

One of mine stripped a thread in the alloy .. I managed to buy 3.. 2 from Real Steel and another from John Eales..

Pretty sure I have 2 spares .. somewhere.

All were sold to me at stupidly expensive prices but much cheaper than a new set of yella terrors.
