Top cover off and then it's under a black roundish cover that is masticked into the wing, cut away the mastick and there will be 2 small screws in there also ... basically a pain in the arse and it's usually just the start... often some wallet bashing will follow.

Just reread your post, you may have found it already - "metal cylinder type with white cap" sounds like it, if it was roughly found as per my above comment. One with wires is I think the brakes.

You can try topping it up, you really need to bleed it through using the bleed valve thing (flying braided hose that is nearby with a nut/valve on the end). However there is a reasonable chance that your slave or master seals have gone pop, especially if you have black sludgey bits - master cylinder failure dumps fluid into the footwell, slave failure dumps it under the car. If one or other has gone then you will just lose the fluid again pretty quickly.

if you have found it (which i think you have) you need to fill it, I would try to remove the black oil if you can. once full pump the clutch, it should startt to bite again after a while, if not you will have to bleed it as per TC instructions.

The black oily stuff sounds like your seals in the master cylinder have gone. check the drivers foot well for any damp patches, if not there, then check the bell housing through the plates under the car, if leaking from there then the slave is fooked.

Master cylinder easy fix, new seals or full kit, slave cylinder not so easy, gearbox out job, poss new cylinder or if luck just new seals (which are st)
