If you add up all the cash missing from cards that night though, it is more than he was found to have on him (I think !!)....so either he is not acting alone, or people who sent cards that were messed with bumped up the amount they sent when asked, for a bit more compo??!rolleyes Or maybe he stashed it up his bum! !

He's a manager, I'd be amazed if the union represented him.

If they did, naturally they'd have everyone out on strike in support. Brothers.

Given the amount missing is higher than what he was carrying, yes some 'victims' may be over-egging it.

But it's more likely that he's not the only one doing this, isn't it?

Nah, Royal Mail and the courts take thieving post seriously. When I did temping there many moons ago they hammered that into us.

Suspended Sentence minimum - quite possibly jail.

Pretty poor odds I would imagine.
Theft of mail = instant dismissal. If he'd admitted the offences he'd already be out of a job.

But dismissal will be a slap on the wrist for him?

It said in the article that he already has his mortgage paid off, and has a BTL property possibly paying for the rest of his bills.

Nothing to lose really.

it would still equate to a slap on the wrist. how many times had he got away with it previously? Enough times to pay off a asieable chunk of his mortgage?

There have been thefts at our local delivery office and every postie caught stealing from the mail has been sent to prison, one for several years.
This is why it is important to report missing mail if you think something of yours has been stolen because the more reports they get the easier it is to find the culprit.
This man should have not been touching the mail at all as that is postie work. Mamagement manage, direct, delegate and oversee the work the posties are doing (bag tipping, putting mail out to sort, sorting and prepping the delivery) it makes me wonder why the union allowed it.

They should take his house and BTL off him too, one guess how they were paid for.
