Well maybe not but how desperate do you have to be to market a car with a silly name like Zeppelin - should go down like a Led balloon.

I was in a Cheshire eaterie last night.

It was like the mid 1980s, minus the shoulder pads.

There were Maybach flyers on the tables.

Such a thing transcends the mere automotive faux pas to invoke some fascinating anthropological work.

Why do German marques allow themselves to continue to be marketed in this Teutonic fashion?

'Vorsprung Durch Technik' was clever for a while (if you can avoid the obvious connotations), but what next; the BMW V2?

PS Although, this could be a chance for the Chinese to relaunch a luxury, stretched Metro called the R101...
