Try it outside of Windows if you can.

Hi Matt. Thought you'd be on here.

How do I do it outside windows?

Cheers

Hit F8 whilst booting.

If you get a choice of startup type select DOS only, if you dont get that option select Safe Mode and try running scandisk whilst windows is in safe mode.

Hi again.

It did it outside windows, but will not do it in normal mode.

I'm trying to stop one of my picture folders from freezing on me. Its got family photos in...so dont want to delete it. Virus checked it but no look.

When you say freezing how do you mean?

When you view the contents in Explorer?

eggtimer comes up. I have to hit ctrl/alt/delete..stop 'my pictures', and it returns to the desktop...minus some icons in bottom right corner.

Hmmmn, you're stopping explorer.exe there and its misinterpreting the file browser portion for the shell portion which is why the icons are disappearing, that happens a lot.

Why its eggtimering in the first place is the biggest concern.

Tried chkdsk /f (it will tell you to use scandisk though) in DOS?

Can you split it up and then try viewing the individual new directories?

The thinking is that a certain size blows the limit for the previewer function and a few other things due to the fact that My Pictures has some extended processing thats perculiar to it...

I've moved most things out of my 'pictures ' folder, and just put them in documents. I can open each folder ok, while they are there. The remaining couple of files left, still will not open up, and causes it to 'freeze' again.

Can you open an image viewer and then navigate to those files from inside the tool and then open them?

No. I'm going to delete the 'pictures' folder, and put them in another. Think this might work...although doesnt cure my scandisk prob, and why i couldn't open the folder.
