The Samaritans

Onwards from the how was your 2009 thread, I have been feeling very low and last night I decided to try the Samaritans.

I did not want to talk directly so I tried their jo@samaritans address. Writing the email was quite cathartic in itself but what is worrying is that I sent it 10 hours ago and still no reply.

In the cold light of day I am seeing a bit clearer now but heaven forbid some pour soul at the end of his or her tether and having to wait that long for a reply.

I know they do very good work but if an email is that slow maybe it should not be an option.

Leaving aside the question of them taking ages to get back to you - Sorry that you are feeling low mate.
There are plenty of people here that would gladly swap a few email swith you to cheer you up.

Sorry to hear you were feeling that way,

Their website says 12 hours, agreed, not suitable for most, but they suggest a call.

For some people who feel unable to call it may be an option, but not in a crisis.

That's not very good of them, one of my friends is a Sam and I thought they normally answer the emails between phone calls, it's a very popular service.

As a few people on here have found, no one really minds a regular coming on late at night when they are down, I know of a couple of people that have had email chats with the night crew so you are never actually far fram a chat with a random stranger.

The Sams do a great job, my friend loves her time there even though it can be harrowing at their end - about 10% of people who call do so for a wk over the phone, if things are quiet they get put on speaker phone

Maybe I'll try that tonight.

Thanks everyone, it has not been the best of years but I have to say that reading the posts and particapating on PH has kept a smile on my face but I do need to get out a lot more.
