Do some jobs attract miderable, self centred t
ts or do nice people take the jobs and get turned into t
ts?
My nomination for the job with the highest proportion of t
ts has to be bin men ( sorry refuge operatives). On top of the fact they generally don't seem to give a toss about the quality if the job they do, they seem intent on rubbing it in.
For example, we have roadworks on the main (but narrow) road everyone has to use to get into and out of the village. Four way lights, one route at a time so it takes forever to get through. Today the bin men blocked the road while they emptied 3 bins from the houses within the roadworks, thereby saving themselves almost 20 yards of walking to stop just beyond the roadworks and allow the traffic to flow. In fairness they were short staffed only having a driver and 2 but that was because when I got into the shop in the road works he was in there buying fags and copies of the Mirror.
I suspect that come Chrimbo they will be there with their grasping, jobsworth, H&FS gloved hands out having spent the year not taking my rubbish because the lid isn't shut fully, it wasn't in the official recycling box or because there was a piece of wood in there which someone had put in having found it fallen from a nearby tree.
If there is a more miserable group of feckless, useless b
ds out there do tell me.

Our bin men are all spot on actually.
Our retail park's security are a right bunch of jobsworths. For example... one of our drivers went out the one-way system the wrong way, leading back to the barriers controlled by the man in the office. Yes, he's a pillock, but late at night there was thankfully nothing coming.
Now, instead of simply letting him out the barrier (the driver can see if there's anything coming in, it would have been completely safe) - the man in the office makes him do a blindside reverse (with a double-height, 45ft long trailer) into an unlit yard and turn round...

our binmen are total f
king jobsworths.
Our recycling bin was packed quite tightly so when they tipped it upside down the stuff didn't fall out. Guess what? They simply put it back on our drive. Cocks.
Also, we cut our hedges a few months ago and the waste filled our bin, so we asked our neighbour if we could use theirs. They agreed, so we filled the two bins and put them at the end of our drive.
When they arrived, they emptied one bin and refusaed to take the other because "You aren't entitled to two bins worth".....so it sat rotting and festering for another two weeks.

I'll be giving them a tip at Xmas..............

Everyone who works in the job centre. Apparently treating everyone you meet like you've caught them rummaging through your bins is a requirement of the job.
That said it is really easy to wind them up, you just ask them to do something that involves work or a small amount of thinking.

Almost all local authority jopbs fit into this catagory, the refuse people, parking control, planners, social workers (once sat in on a meeting where somebody was savaged for saying "good morning ladies")admin staff, teachers, leisure centre staff and last but certainly not least, the people in the finance dept.
Sadly most people who work for the government or local councils seem to have a very cavalier and disinterested attitude to customer service, taking responsibility for seeing a job through and dealing with problems to the point that the other party is satisfied. The 'take it or leave it' and 'not my responsibility' attitude that most parts of local councils run by is utterly disgraceful and they seem to hide behind a big mystery shroud of imaginery titles and departments which makes them virtually uncontactable if they don't want to speak to or deal with you.

Binmen mostly don't work for the council these days. That's the problem.Edited by bazking69 on Friday 13th November 14:27
Ours work for a company called SITA. SITA is a French multi-national. Unsurprisingly they really couldn't give a s
t whether Bristol residents get their bins emptied properly or not. They won the contract to provide services by pitching at rock bottom price, and provide a commensurate service. The council (IME) are actually very receptive to complaints, and do kick SITA's arse as hard as they can, but there's obviously a limit to what they can do. And if SITA keeps bidding the lowest price for the contract...People who work for a monopoly very often have a different work ethic or attitude. I don't think grumpiness is restricted to bin men.
I live where the bin men are employed by private companys. They earn decent money and are very accomodating when it comes to a little extra garbage, which I often have. I do bung 'em a 20 occaisionally and give a couple of cold sodas in the summer when it's in the high 90s.
I was rather expecting Plod to have been mentioned by now
