I need to get a new desk. I want something pretty simple, and at a glance the Ikea Galant series seems ideal, they do a simple white/frosted glass desk with steel legs.

However being Ikea there's always some bloody problem, and in this case it's that it's on their website but isn't available to buy online and none of the stores in my entire region have any.

I've done the obligatory Google and just can't find anything similar (there seem to be plenty of options if I want to pay £500 or so) so I'm asking the PH massive to do their best to highlight how crap I am at searching biggrin

We've got somthing similar in the office, three problems with them

1. You have to use a mouse mat or optical mice dont work (oh how I was laughed at for that!)
2. Glass is fking cold and when its not freezing your wrists / forearms its draining every bit of heat out of tea/coffee
3. Any OCD issues will pop up and you'll spend a huge amount of time polishing the finger prints and smudges off the buggers

Yes I did see those on their website, the trestles look a little pricey though and it's a little galling that they seem to charge a lot for what boils down to a piece of glass - maybe I'm just a cheapskate but if Ikea can sell one for so little (though fat lot of use when I can't get my hands on one).

Mine was from John Lewis.

BUT I agree with the comments about how cold they are... some nights my forearms are litterally aching with the cold.... so much so that I now have a padded table protector cloth thing in it and use an oil heated electric radiator underneath it to take the chill off.............. sort of ruins the visuals of the having a glass desk... but the table protector does hide the dust!!

Our local cinema has a glass topped coffee table in their foyer/waiting room. It is just that: a slab of glass as a top, with four steel legs glued on the bottom. I have tried tapping a leg with my foot, convinced it would simply snap off with a little lateral load applied. I've looked for a hidden frame, that supports these legs, but no, they are just fastened to the glass top, solid as if welded to steel.

Where the hell do you get glue that strong??? confused
