Hi,

next weekend is my first wedding anniversary I'd like to take the wife away somewhere for one night (nothing like leaving it to the last minute eh).

Ideally no more than 3 hours drive from NW London with some nice roads en route and with enough to keep up amused for an evening and most of the next day. A nice hotel etc etc. Prepared to drive a little further if its worth it but it will be just a one night stay so can't be too far.

Money wise things are still tight so £500 a night suites are out of the questions, less than half that for the night's stay would be nice.

Thanks!

I was hoping for recommendations of an actual hotel rather than just a city if possible smile

Well it would help if you decided on a town first!

Google 'hotel, buxton, palace'

I'm not doing it for you.

It might be slightly more than three hours drive.
But you didn't say how fast you drove biggrin

Barnsley Hotel was pretty nice. It's South Gloucestershire I think so should be within 3 hours. You could go motorway or cross country past Oxford.

Appreciate the "hotel recc rather than town" but Bath would be a very good place to start.

although I'm sure i'd enjoy the drive there and back there's also a distinct possibility the wife will kill me if I make her suffer a 10 hour road trip over the weekend! Looks nice for a longer stay in future though.

Hmm, the tag line on the home page would put me right off.

Twickenham, hour max, cheap hotel, two tickets for match, few beers and a nice ruby on the way back to hotel, could even treat the Mrs to warm hat and scarf and still be quids in, pound says she would never forget the 1st anniversary

thanks for all the suggestions. Red room also wan't available but that and the castles were the type of things I was looking for

I've booked Malmaison in Oxford, hopefully that should do the trick
