Artex and paint peeling
Discussion
my folks have just bought a new place, got an experienced (i.e. 30 plus years) decorator in to paint the place, he painted the artex ceiling one day, went back the next and it was peeling - apparently he had never seen this before - has anyone else seen it and know what the problem is?
I assume the paint is peeling and not the Artex! Every ceiling in this house has Artex and painting it is no different to any other surface (apart from getting paint in your hair..). I can only assume it is a reaction between the new paint and whatever was put on previously, or possibly some sort of cleaning agent which hasn't been rinsed off properly?

good point - the paint is good quality (I confess this means little to me - but I assume this means Dulux or better)Simpo Two said:
10 years of fag smoke?
I would still not expect the nicotine to make the paint peel, perhaps discolour. If the Artex has never before been painted and, too thick a first coat has now been applied then that 'could' be the cause. That or a very cheap paint, much like the old distemper has previously been used. Gassing Station | Homes, Gardens and DIY | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
