E39 M5 SatNav - won't respond.... help required
Discussion
Hi,
Just changed the CD cartridge then got back in an fired up the car, for some reason the display on the head unit has changed and now I have no SatNav.
The red standby light is on the SatNav unit in the boot but I cannot eject the disk and there is now no Satnav option on the head unit. The car appears to not be recognising any Satnav appliance.
Any one know how to do a reset or has any ideas how to get the thing working again?
It's a 2001 facelift model.

Normal starting point is to disconnect the battery for a short period (say 15 minutes) then reconnect and allow the system to reinitialise - hopefully your navigation drive will reboot.
Perhaps also worth checking that you haven't dislodged the ibus cable from the navigation drive whilst you were working on the autochanger.

Cheers Gary,
I took out the cartridge and reinput it, fiddled with numerous wires but still no joy. I then took it on a 20 mile thrashing as punishment and hey presto... it's started working again
As you say, I must have dislodged a wire somehow. Either that or it's paying me back for relegating it from daily use to weekends only!
I'll remember the disconnecting battery trick if it should happen again. On that subject, if I were to disconnect the battery would I lose all preprogrammed radio stations and would it set off the alarm?
Thanks

Hi - you will lose the pre-programmed radio stations and the time/date will need to be reset, but there is no radio code needed.
Glad it's working OK now - if the navigation drive does fail, at least it's a good excuse to source a mk4 DVD with all the fancy bits - seem to go for about £400 from ebay.
