hi need some help on striping down my 350 I noticed the inlet manifold was just finger tight which will explain the poor running, but when I exposed the cam I noticed 2 of the lower push rod guides just above the hydraulic lifers had pushed them selves out but not completely, my question is can they be pushed back in and how? Also how are they secured?

I don't quite understand you.

If you are referring to the cupped plunger in the top of the lifter/cam follower then it's normal for that to be pressed down say half a mm below the retaining circlip.

What do you mean by 'them'? Are you talking about the lifters themselves, or something else? The lifters just slide into the bore. The pushrods sit in the ends of the lifters. There's no separate guide as such.

ETA: On further thought, I suspect you're just seeing the lifters at different height because some of them are on the cam lobes. That's normal.

OP, the lifters are the metal cylinders under the pushrods with the cup in them. All you have to do is push them back down until they stop which is when they touch the camshaft lobe.
