What's the point in having a Queen’s speech so close to an election that parliamentary process mean that it is unlikely that any bills can be made law?

I agree. However I think Winky will use it to set out the NuLabia election manifesto.

Tradition, HM's speech happens irrespective of whether or not an election may be held. . . . . . . . So it's very odd that winky wants to continue with this one, when he couldn’t be bothered to bow at the cenotaph or wear the correct clothing for formal occasions

Although on this occasion it looks like winky will use it to put forward his list of bribes that he's going to tempt the stupid with furious

Indeed, he'll be relying on them never becoming law, because they'll be totally unaffordable. Nice stick to beat the Tories with though if they have the cojones to actually say that they're unaffordable.

All politicians bribe the electorate (tax cuts or additional spending) one of the many flaws with democracy.

Just seems a pointless waste of time and money when there's little possibility of enacting the proposals in the speech. The problem would occur regardless of who is in power.

I notice that Nick Clegg has come out against holding a Queen's Speech.

I think it's about time we had Phil's Speech, to balance out the gender inequality from Buckingham Palace.

Plus, they shouldn't censor it either smile

Newspaper headline today suggests that Winky is indeed going to use the Queen's Speech as an electioneering platform, which is inappropriate if so. Either way the content - like the 50% tax rate nonsense - is mostly designed to try and tempt the Tories into some faux pas rather than steer the country through a very difficult time.

That's not totally surprising as nulab and their leader are self-serving and incompetent but it's still bad news for the country.
