Just starting to think about buying a 2006 MY RR but had a little bit of fun this weekend in my current Disco 2 in all that water. My fear is that I wont play much in a 25k RR so starting to sway back to Disco 3 that I wont be so precious about.....maybe the D3 and an old D1/D2 for fun. My D2 is in too good condition andis worth too much to be the weekend fun car so I cant keep that. If anyone is interested in the D2 I have for sale it is 2003 TD5 es premium with all the toys and a fully fitted (not for show) safari snorkel and all round grabber AT2's which are an amazing tyre. No proper off roading only my little plays on on impassable tracks that I find on my regular journeys. I bought it mainly because I drive to my Ski trips each year. censored

So 2006 RR or D3 or cheaper D3 & toy.

Cheers

Ian

Depends on one's attitude to motoring. We have just swapped our 2005 FFRR for a 2006 D3. In wifey's eyes, it's more "practical" and "utilitarian" - as far as I'm concerned they're both grossly overengineered house bricks with more extraneous electrickey than you can shake a stick at. However, as country folk, both are driven as intended, and rarely if ever see a wash in anything other than glutinous muddy water / offal / manure, and they are there to do their job - get from A to B come hell or high water.

In my mind, it's like those who buy sportscars, then when selling them on state "never driven in the rain" or worse "no trackdays" as if it's a badge of pride whereas I'd see it as the ultimate shame. They were designed and bought to be driven.

Sports - rag the arse off it on a track.

4x4 - it's a sodding 4x4, get it muddy, get it mucky, bend it on rocks, life a life.

The cost in those terms is immaterial.

Nice thoughts. I was talking to a friend, who was with me when we discovered a small ford in eastleigh Hampshire on our way back from a squash match (from which I am still recovering...part of the ski training ! ) and I mentioned to him that when I advertise the car it will proudly make mention that the car has been off-road. It is what it is for and it means it has all been used, the low range hasnt been left to sieze up, the off road suspension setting has been used. the HDC has been used, and more importantly it all still works. Like you I was more upset that all the mud from the truck was washed off as we crossed the ford on the way back.

I think also I was the only person I know who got up on saturday morning to the SE storms and thought "great...where can I find some water and mud "

I wouldn't as off roaded cars tend to be avoided/cost less as people fear off road underside damage. People like to buy cossetted cars, one lady vicar owner, etc

Nearly impossible though with a Safari Snorkel attached and AT tyres.
