Anyone got a good source of parts for an engine refresh?...I'm thinking:

Definites:
Clean/degrease/strip
New Cam (probably a V8Dev jobbie)
Followers
Timing Chain & possible wheels if worn
Valves Ground
Valve stem seals?
Big end bearings
Mains
Piston rings
Engine block hone
Water pump
Gaskets
Clutch plate

Possibles:

Cam bearings if needed
Oversized Pistons, Rings and rebore
Crank Grind
Rockers/shaft?
Rebalance
Oil pump

Anything else worth while doing (or a 'free win') whilst the engine is out??

The next question is, does anyone know a GOOD machine shop in southeast essex for engine honing and posible more. Want to get prepared for when it comes out...

Forget that, its a 500 with its own pistons - I don't think you can even get oversize?. Get Block re-linered (top hats preferably) and possibly look at some of the alternate bigger bore piston/rod combinations. Otherwise its @1.5k of custom made pistons AFIK.

Just gently lap the valves, grinding may end up with different valve stem heights - which we seem to hear of far too frequently and I can only imagine that over aggressive lapping has caused this?

Choice of rings may well make the most difference to the build, the rest is just attention to detail when rebuilding. Smoothing, grinding a bit here & there and carefully matching mating components. Be very careful in the bits you buy there are a lot of cheap bearings etc around.

Thought they were 4.6 pistons just with a longer crank throw...

So where do I buy quality parts but at decent cost? Don't wany to buy cr@p but also donl't want to pay throught the nose for the same quality stuff...
