Depends what you want to do with it that will make the decision for you.
I had until recently the 355 spider for fun and a 997 cab for everyday, the 997 was a great everyday car but was pretty uninspiring it was the second 997 I have had and found both of them pretty dull.
The last 997 was the 9th 911 in a row, the 993's were pretty good fun a really different car to drive and took some learning.
The 996's I had 1x 3.4,1 x 3.6 and a GT2 were all ok had a few issues with all of them.
The 355 however is just fantastic a real keeper, even after 2 years I still pop out to the garage to sneak a look, never did that with the 996's or 997's.
If you are going to go down the 355 route you need to find a good one which took me two years and 25 cars before one I was happy to buy.
Food for thought you just need to decide what you want to do with it any further questions just drop me a line

IMO - The 355 is so much cooler than the other 2 but as already said it will come down to what you want from the car (admittedly I'm biased). They are completely different propositions. As said by musclecarmad
Everyday - Turbo (devestatingly capable and relatively understated)
Special occasions/weekends - 355 (the looks and the sound!
)Phib - never get tired of that photo, lol.

Wow Michael, you have managed to pull yourself away from COD MW 2 !

Some of us have to go to work occasionally.

Am hoping the weather holds today as need to get the 355 out & take her for a good run, all this lousy weather has left her tucked away for nearly 2 weeks.
Fancy a blat around some country roads between 6.30 - 7.30?

The 355 is pretty easy to drive, the steering is light (too light to be honestly but it makes parking and town driving easy) and the boot is a decent enough size. In a straight line I reckon the 355 and 997 are pretty close, but in the corners the 911 will wide the floor with the 355. The noise on a standard 911 isn't great to be honest but stick on a sports exhaust (porshce do one) then it's ok. The Ferrari however is obscene! With the standard exhaust it sounds very good but stick on a sports exhaust and OH MY GOD it just screams!!!!!!!!!!!!!! By far one of the best engine sounds of all time!
They are both great cars, but which is more fun? For me the 355. I went and opened up the garage just to look at it earlier today and the novelty still hasn't worn off. For me the 355 just "does it" for me and to be honest I don't know if I'll ever sell it, certainly no time soon any way.
To be honest though the 911 is a much better car. It handles better (much much better), has the 2 extra seats which admittedly aren't huge but they can take adults for a short journey and that is handy. Oh and it doesn't cost that much to run. I can get just under 30mpg on motorways and it only needs serviced every 2 years or 20k. I can take it anywhere and not have to worry about someone signing their name in the paintwork or smashing a window, where as the Ferrari I would constantly be a bit worried. All that considered the 355 is my favourite. just thinking about it now gets me excited and makes me smile. Every thing about it, from the way it looks and sounds to the click clack of the gear stick, it's just an absolute experience!
Which to buy? It's a difficult one, but still a nice situation to be in. The Ferrari can be used everyday, but I would buy a cheap run about to park in car parks or take to ASDA etc. The 911 though is obviously far easier to live with and when we had really bad snow last year I had absolutely no problem getting about, I'm willing to be my 355 wouldn't have been quite as good in the snow.
If your planning on using it as a weekend toy GET THE 355! You won't regret it! If your looking at an everyday car don't disregard the Porshce it is a great car too.
Hopefully I haven't rambled on too much but if I haven't put you to sleep and you have any more questions just PM me and I'll be happy to help. Oh and good luck with your search.
Oh one last thing, it's getting harder and harder to find good 355's so look very carefully and possibly have a look at Nick Cartwright's stock he is very good and prepares his cars to like new standard.

Does anyone have any advice on aftermarket exhausts?
Which is best for a 355?
Anyone heard of a company called 'quicksilver exhausts'?
Yes Quicksilver are a good system although they are a middle draw unit. Now if you want the top draw exhaust system then its Capristo all the way!! I have owned mine for near 7 years now. Many that have seen and heard mine have then sold there other systems to get one.Which is best for a 355?

I've just been doing some research on exhausts and there's good info on Ferrarichat from Capristo explaining the original OE design and their thinking: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=... .
Capristo certainly seem to be the best thought out design wise, quality and sound wise it's top notch too although sound is obviously down to personal choice.
I'm seriously considering swapping mine (due to the better design) despite the cost.

the 911 is a good car, the 355 isn't as good a car. the 355 is a much better toy though.
