Cooo-eee!

Sounds like the valve is stuck one end or 'tother.
Might be air locking in one of the supply pipes and there's simply not enough flow. Turn all the other rads off and see if that clears it. (Put the programmer on central heating only)

Both valves turned on?

If it is a stuck valve, you can try tapping it to unstick it. Has it just stopped working or recently been turned off/ touched?

If it has a TRV, try taking off the head and see if the pin is jammed.

It's a stuck valve then Phil. Unusual unless there's a TRV on it and the pin is stuck as Ricky says. Or I have had to free some fancy chrome ones that look like a tap before.

Hmmmmm...
Really you need to get into those valves I reckon. Means a drain down unless you want to bung the system off. It's not a sealed system by any chance?

Apologies if this is a total insult, but you do know which way is on and off, don't you?

Try bleeding the rad with one side shut off, then swap over and bleed again. Do this with the system off.

As well as bleeding, this will tell you if one of the valves has blocked / broken.

I had sludge deposits in a couple of my radiators - the radiator was warm from the pipe in, up one side, over the top, down the other side and out the other pipe. Closed off both valves, removed the rad, flushed out a few times - lots of black gunge - replaced - cured the problem.

Bloo*y plumbing, Did what everyone suggested, still the bathroom radiator refuses to keep hot!!

Ive noticed that the input in line valve gushes water into the rad, but the exit one ( when I disconnected the rad) only trickes water out in the open position! Could the pipe be blocked. this is driving me nuts If so do I call in the Heavy gang?

Sounds like you might actually need a power flush of your system!

Had just this on a job yesterday,I removed the rad valves completely and found the valve and pipe on the flow full of debris, restricting the flow. After clearing the system worked correctly. If this is the same in your case you may need a power flush.

You'll need a power flushing machine for the job to be done properly.

They'll remove a radiator and attach the flusher to each radiator valve. They'll also need access to a mains water supply (outside tap?) and a drain for the water to be regularly flushed out into.

The power flusher is basicly a big powerful pump. You alternative which way the water is rushing through the system and in turn flushing out the debris. You isolate a radiator at a time (so need access to all radiators) and clean them in turn.

When done the system should be sludge free and run better.

Give it a tap with a hammer.
