Anyone know what this is ?

As the title says, whatever it is is situated next to the fuse board.
I think it is some sort of electric motor, but what does it do ?

I have recently had the heater panel replaced, whilst the new one was being re-veneered an old one was fitted to cover the hole. The original has now beeen put back in and when the ignition is switched on, this small motor starts ( a noise i've never noticed before), it also carries on when the engine is running. The car is a Griff 500.

Is it part of the heater system,it was still whirring with the fans off, anybody any idea's.

That's the motor which operates the fresh/recirculating air flap for the heating system.

There is a small potentiometer fitted to it which limits the rotation and if one of the wires has dropped off it may allow the motor to run continually, however, as you have said that the heater control panel has been out it is more likely that a connection there has been disturbed. There is a ribbon cable from the heater controls to the heater ECU, it may be worth trying to reseat the connectors.
