Stolen Alfa Romeo 166
Discussion
Resolved - see update on page 2.
It was stolen with the keys yesterday afternoon around 5pm in the Leeds area.
If anyone sees anything, or hears of it for sale, I'd be grateful of being informed.
Picture here;
There's so few of these cars around, that hopefully if it comes up for sale or to be broken, then it will lead to the recovery or at least the scumbag who took it to be one step closer to the police.
It's a 1999 166 3.0 V6 manual Super with 130k(ish) on the clock.
Black leather
17" horseshoe alloys
Sunroof and xenons
Zender rear lip boot spoiler
There were only 2000 or so 166s in the UK and there are less than 20 on Autotrader right now, so it's rare for one so specific to go up for sale, if it does.
I trusted a 'car valeting company' too much it seems, and he disappeared with it.
Because of the circumstances, I don't know if my insurance is covering it yet - should be finding out more today.

Ouch! Really hope it works out for you - like you say, the relative rarity of these might be a help in finding it.Because of the circumstances, I don't know if my insurance is covering it yet - should be finding out more today.

Wow sorry to hear about this.. any more details on the company?
I very much doubt they are a genuine company. A guy came into work enquiring if anyone wanted car valeting. We get them all the time - seems like I picked the wrong one.He had an embroidered polo shirt on with 'Glenwood Autos' as the company name. This was the same as the name on the receipt he gave me.
The scam goes that his lads will be round that afternoon but eventually they can't turn up because the mobile valeting van has broken down. I didn't think much of this as it was a Friday afternoon and you know what they're like for spinning you a line on a Friday...
Agreed to come Monday and with a discount as a way of apology.
I speak to the same guy yesterday and he says that the van is still off the road but they've negotiated some space at a hand car wash just up the road where they are doing some outstanding jobs (I know where it is - have used it before) so he'll come down and pick the car up and then drop it off 2 hours later.
Obvously, the car doesn't come back and I've exchanged my car for a receipt from a company that doesn't exist.
It's worth nothing to sell and less in bits. So few of them around and as soon as a new one comes up for sale it is usually recognised.
It's fairly obvious that they were just after a car - even if it was to clear out the glovebox of sat-nav, handsfree, sunglasses etc.

A quick Google for that company name gets you a contact number, have you rang them?
Either way, sorry to hear about this
A contact number in Romford - the scam ocurred in Leeds.Either way, sorry to hear about this

Seems strange. Sounds like its been stolen to order, probably for parts. An alfa 166 must be one of the least stolen cars in the uk due to rarity and i suppose, lack of big market to move on stolen bits without a 'buyer' lined up.
One of the (many) bonuses of big alfa ownership is normally the LACK of attention from lowlife scum as cars with such style
seem to not register at all in their tiny minds (no bright colours/spoilers/big wheels etc).
i feel your pain but on the bright side a nice 2004 3.2V6 just like my old one has appeared on autotrader, snap it up!

I am truly gutted for you Andy, I know first hand how much you loved that car and it was an absolute corker!!!!!!
I sincerely hope the insurance pays out bud, if they don't, you have to question who the real criminals are
If you need transport, I have a cheap Vectra estate for sale if you need it?
Gimme a bell or a text mate, dont have your new number for some reason

Very slight update; 'Glenwood Autos' did actually clean some cars at the company next door to us on Friday. Theirs were boxed in when they were being done though - I don't know any more details but it's the same guy.
I also have a different phone number which he gave to them that I'll try.

Pretend you're a new customer though yeah.I also have a different phone number which he gave to them that I'll try.
Yeah, we have him on CCTV turning up on Friday in his car AND also again on Monday when, on looking back through the footage, he parked up just behind a wall out of range of the camera and then walked across our front apron, so as to appear that he had walked from the car wash.
He then came back later to pick up his car.
The footage isn't clear though - it might be possible to make out a registration number with a bit of work, but not easily. His face on it is the same, but I already know what he looks like. I don't know what the police might do with the footage, but it's going onto a CD today, hopefully and I'll drop it off with them.
