The Ballet....

So, Mrs JCB wants to go to the Ballet.

I have no problems with this, however, I (and she) know nothing about Ballet.

So....

What's good to see?
Where's good to see it?
Modern/contemporary or classical?
How much is it?

If the cultured amongst the PH masses could help, I'd appreciate it....Thanks!

Yup keep to the classics, Swan lake etc, you will enjoy.
I was lucky enough to see Swan Lake performed at the old Bolshoi theatre in Moscow before it closed for a ten year refurbishment, spectacular, utterly spectacular!

My wife took my 2 daughter's (7 & 9), her Mum and my Mum and Auntie to see A Christmas Carol at the Lyceum in Sheffield last week. It was performed by the Northern ballet Company and they all said it was fantastic. Even my 7 year old who's into football and power rangers was enthralled the whole time.
My Mum and Auntie are 76 & 79 and it was the 1st time they had been to the ballet.
I think the Christmas ones are easier going than the traditional ballets because they have to cater to all ages.

Agree with the above, stick to the classics and you can't go wrong. Nutcracker, Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty etc.

We both really enjoy ballet.

Any of teh classic would be good. A favourite is The Nutcracker.

We've also seen some contemporary stuff from teh Scottish Ballet, different, but we liked the music (NIN and Aphex Twin)

We normally pay around £20 - £25 for the tickets, which is about average for a show in Aberdeen

My miss's is taking me to the ballet this saturday for the nut cracker.

I said I liked the music. [I didnt think it was a ballet though]

Although good side it rather nice women in tight fitting cloths.

If yo go to the nutcracker you'll probably recognise half the music, which is a good thing.

The prima ballerina don’t half milk the crowd so prepare to clap for what seems like hours, also if it's your first time only clap when the whole of the audience has already started Saw the Moscow Ballet Nutcracker at the weekend, GF wanted to go so I sorted the tickets, was a lot better than I had imagined and actually quite enjoyable. Other points to note for first timers, often better to order your interval drinks in advance, prepare to be sitting there for 3 hours or so, a program might help you follow what’s going on. HTH
