Now that these are all over 10 years old, are any insurance companies offering classic car policies for them. I have been ringing around / applying online for quotes and the quotes are pretty horrendous if you want to use an M3 as a second car ie don't have a "no claims bonus" to put against it. Even with 10 yrs no claims the best quotes seem to be £600 with £500+ excess (35 yr old, living in leafy suburbia with private drive)

Have the toerag element pushed up the insurance risk on these cars?

I have classic cover from Footman James on my 98 Evo, 4500 miles/year, agreed value.

Adrian Flux also offered (who I cover my XJS through).

But couldn't get classic cover on a 2001 Alpina B3.

How much is classic cover on one of these? I've been keeping an eye on these for a while now and I can't think of a better car for the money.

AON Run a "Classic" scheme - especially through owners clubs and the like. I ran my FTO's under these policies very economically at the time.

tbh I still think it's a bit pricey as there's no commuting, I'm 42 with a good record and it's just over £330 garaged, my XJS is half that with mor emiles and left on the road.

One online insurer I just got a quote from was quoting more for having it in a garage overnight than on a drive or even on the street.

There is no explaining insurance quotes sometimes!

That seems pretty good to me considering the trouble you could get into in it. I'm younger so they'll probably be more expensive for me. Worth a quote though.

The cheapest I could get as an every dayer was about £680, but again, that doesn't seem too bad considering the performance. I don't think it's about crashing and writing it off but what else you take out at the same time. hehe

This topic couldn't have come around sooner as the insurance on mine is due at the end of the month and am planning to get it on a classic/collectors policy. The big plan is to insure the TVR and M3 for the current price on which i pay for the M3.

We will have markets available on a classic policy.

If you want to send me some details I will get someone to give you a call and see what we can offer.

Slightly different angle, & I am officially an old git apparently, but I have mine on a multi car policy with Admiral: overall, it's in its second year & it was cheaper than the individual renewal qoutes.

Admiral wanted £1300 for a 2001 530i, 2000 Fiesta 1.25 and a 1998 M3 Evo for me. Not scandalous but not great - about the same as I can get with separate policies. I was a bit surprised they weren't more competitive tbh

If you click my username you can e-mail me that way.

If you just include a contact number and a brief description of what you are after as well.

I will then get someone to call you and see what we can do.

I have just swapped my newly acquired 98-R Evo SMG onto the classic policy I set up originally for the Sport Evo.

It costs about £380/year for 3000 miles but I can extend to 5000 miles if I wish.

Actual policy is with Eclisiastical Insurance, but found through Peter Best Broker.

Though I haven't got agreed value yet, it's simple to upgrade, just send of the requisite 6 photos....

The best bit with this loty is that IT DOESN'T USE YOU NO-CLAIMS, so you are free to insure the daily hack with the ncb -
